SPRINGVALE police have warned shopkeepers to check the validity of their money after recent reports of counterfeit $50 notes.
Sergeant Geoff Straughen said: “A fair few have passed around the area in the last week or so,” with the Australian Federal Police informed of the mystery counterfeit operations.
Sgt Straughen said the notes were under investigation by both Dandenong and Springvale detectives and bore marks that distinguished them from real $50 notes.
The latest incident was at Southvale Newsagency with the shopkeeper discovering a counterfeit $50 note in his till.
Shopkeepers should contact Springvale police for information on how to check if notes are counterfeit on 9546 3044.
