Council lures ‘game’ fish

THE City of Greater Dandenong will consider hooking one of the 71 fish displayed on the Yarra River during the Commonwealth Games.
Greater Dandenong chief executive Carl Wulff said each council would have first preference on the fish that represented the team adopted by council for the Games.
Council will look at keeping the black tiger prawn, which represented its adopted team, Mozambique.
The question was raised at Monday’s council meeting by Dandenong North Ward councillor John Kelly.
Cr Kelly said that with Greater Dandenong’s support for the arts program, it would be a great opportunity to keep and display one of the fish.
Mr Wulff said council would weigh up transport costs and the fish’s durability because they have not been designed for long term use, before making a decision.
He said the fish were currently being dismantled so they could be taken out of the Yarra.
“We have got the opportunity to keep it and we are pursuing it fairly actively,” he said.
