Dandenong’s scribes have the write stuff

ANOTHER year of Greater Dandenong Writing Awards has come to a close with the city well represented, despite competition from interstate authors and poets.
Greater Dandenong residents were successful in junior divisions, and received a swag of Highly Commended awards for their entries.
Dandenong residents Bill Reed and Joanna Hurley received Highly Commendeds for their stories, Sticking the Boot into Charlie: A Love Story, and Look out World: Madam Mountain is coming through.
In the Open Poetry division Springvale’s Stelle Schutze and Dandenong’s Angock Leuth collected Highly Commended awards for Harbour Ferry, and Oh No.
Brenda Roum, of Dandenong North, was awarded equal first place for her short story in the competition’s junior division.
And an Editor’s Choice award went to Adele Rose, from Noble Park, for her piece, A Model Search.
A high-profile judging panel included such authors as Michael Salmon, well-known for his junior fiction writing and illustrations.
Winners were announced at The Drum Theatre lat Sunday with winning entries read aloud by professional actors.
