DANDENONG Rangers defender Emily McInerny has added another trophy to her already bursting display cabinet.
The Australian Opal was named Basketball Victoria’s female player of the year for 2006 last Thursday night.
McInerny was on an overseas holiday at the time and her mother accepted the Betty Watson Medal on her behalf.
Marilyn Groenewegen, manager of the Dandenong Rangers’ National Wheelchair Basketball League team, was awarded the Allan Ashe Memorial Award for volunteer of the year.
The award recognises the outstanding efforts and contribution of a volunteer over a significant period of time.
To complete the Dandenong trifecta, three of Dandenong Basketball Association’s long-serving referees, Josephine IIbury (17 years), Paul IIbury (15 years) and Joe Lemmo (16 years) received special service awards for their continued service to the sport.
McInerny named best in the state
