CITY of Greater Dandenong councillors have deferred a decision on awarding themselves a pay until after the local government elections on 26 November.
The councillors became eligible for a pay rise after they convinced the State Government the municipality was worthy of an upgrade from category two to a category three council.
It argued that Greater Dandenong was a fastgrowing municipality in terms of population and industrial growth, and that this growth brought increasing challenges to the mayor and the councillors.
Under the changes, the mayor’s allowance could rise from $46,500 up to $57,500, while the councillor allowance could increase from $15,000 to $18,000.
