CITIZENSHIP crash courses for refugees and migrants living in Greater Dandenong will continue to run at Springvale Library this month.
Greater Dandenong mayor Youhorn Chea said the courses, run by the Libraries’ English Language and Literacy Access staff, helped people understand their rights and responsibilities as Australian citizens.
“At the same time many course attendees have improved their English language skills,” Cr Chea said.
“People have given positive reports on the courses, which aim to instil a better understanding of Australia and what it means to be an Australian citizen.
“The courses include information on Australian institutions, contemporary values, multicultural society, government, law and democracy.
“People can also find out how to apply for citizenship and what goes on during citizenship ceremonies.
“This worthwhile program provides course participants with valuable information that will assist them in their pursuit of Australian citizenship.”
An added course option will examine Australian work culture, focusing on expectations of qualifications and applying for jobs.
Other settlement issues will also be covered.
For more information and to book a place on the course, phone English Language and Literacy Access on 9239 5326. Bookings essential.
