Dandenong caught on tape

A VIDEO time capsule of what people believe central Dandenong will be like in the year 2027 will be sealed away this weekend at Palm Plaza.
The video is part of VicUrban’s Revitalising Central Dandenong (RCD) Community Information Day, which will take place this Saturday between 10am and 2pm at Palm Plaza, McRae Street, Dandenong.
The City of Greater Dandenong Council and VicUrban are inviting residents to bring their families to the day and have their visions recorded for the video time capsule, which will be sealed away and reopened at the conclusion of the RCD project in 2027.
Also on the day, VicUrban will explain how the findings of a recent community consultation on the Urban Master Plan draft affected the final vision for central Dandenong.
A report from VicUrban shows that more than 7000 people were involved in the process.
The Urban Master Plan outlines a dynamic 15 to 20-year vision for the largest urban renewal project VicUrban has embarked upon since the Melbourne Docklands.
It sets a broad framework for central Dandenong as it seeks to attract top-tier investment to the city centre. City of Greater Dandenong and VicUrban representatives will be available on the day to discuss the plan. Translators covering seven languages will also be on hand. Mayor Youhorn Chea said the information day would provide the public with a great opportunity to learn about plans for the future of central Dandenong.
“Anyone interested in finding out how the State Government’s $290 million investment in our city will be spent should join us,” he said.
“Council is proud of its strong partnership with VicUrban and we will continue to work together to deliver the shared vision for the revitalisation of central Dandenong.”
The day will also include a free sausage sizzle.
