Leonie branches out with a makeover

By Shaun Inguanzo
A NAIL technician of 27 years, Leonie Piper has changed her focus to provide women with a business-minded makeover.
The Monbulk resident has spent the past several years helping women who struggle to find time to cater for both family and a career to establish their own spray-on tanning and beauty business from their homes.
Ms Piper, who owns her own business called Aussie Bronze, is now targeting women in the Greater Dandenong area, and says making the first step into business is not as daunting as it seems.
“If you have kids and want to be there, you are there,” she said.
“In between clients you can put the tea on and still run the home.
“You do need two incomes nowawdays to buy a home and this allows you to cover all the bases without your family having to suffer.”
Her business advice for women is priced at around $600 but she said the set-up was not a franchise of her own business.
She said most women, after receiving the advice, often included other beauty treatments.
“The opportunities are huge. The thing is you just don’t stay with one service,” she said.
“Go and do waxing, or blend it with so many different things. Some women have got a huge flair for making jewellery they can sell in their salon… there are always sidelines they can have in their business.”
Ms Piper’s willingness to move from beauty therapy into business mentoring was inspired by her own experience.
“When I had kids (and the home business) friends used say ‘I wish I could do this’, and I said they could.
“But a lot of people don’t know where to begin and I enjoy not just supplying a product but also being able to show people how to have their own business.
“It is nice to see the women get there,” she said.
