THE Interfaith Network (IFN) of religions and faiths will host its13th annual gathering at The Drum Theatre this month.
The annual gathering is a chance to celebrate the work of the IFN and its partnership with the City of Greater Dandenong Council.
Greater Dandenong mayor Youhorn Chea will address the gathering, which provides an opportunity for all IFN faith leaders to publicly reaffirm their commitment to the community and council through the signing of a common statement.
This statement is a public affirmation of the partnership shared between the two parties.
“The Interfaith Network’s message is simple, yet poignant,” Cr Chea said.
“The group exists to promote understanding, respect and tolerance for each other’s beliefs by living together in peace and goodwill.
“These ideals are particularly relevant in our culturally diverse city. The network is a unique body which the council is proud to support.”
A traditional part of the annual gathering is the central presentation, which is based on the United Nations theme for the year.
This year’s theme is the International Year of Planet Earth.
Each IFN faith leader will participate in a ceremony reflecting upon the importance of caring for the earth and each other.
The annual gathering will also feature the announcement of the 2008 IFN executive.
Elsewhere, a group of 16 local schools and about 1000 students will come together between 10am-Midday on 23 October for the Schools Interfaith annual gathering.
The event aims to give young people from Greater Dandenong exposure to different faiths and cultures and promote harmony and understanding in the community.
