DANDENONG police have been given the authority to enforce the City of Greater Dandenong’s local laws.
The change brings Dandenong police into line with police at Springvale, where the authority to enforce local laws has proven successful, according to a council report.
The changes will allow Dandenong police to enforce local laws in relation to the entering and remaining in a public place under the influence of alcohol or an illegal drug, and the destroying, damaging, defacing or interfering with of garden beds, flora, roads or other council assets.
Cr David Kelly welcomed the changes.
“This request came from the police and the changes will help them continue the fight against drugs and keep the streets clean,” he said.
