POLICE have appealed for public help to catch a serial flasher in Springvale who has been exposing himself to children as young as six years old.
Greater Dandenong Crime Investigation Unit (CIU) this week released images of the man, compiled from children’s descriptions.
Detective Senior Constable Mark Higgins said police believed the same man was responsible for at least 10 similar incidents reported over the past 12 months, with the most recent occurring two weeks ago.
The man is described as always riding a bike, and his method is to approach young children and ask them for directions.
Det Sen Const Higgins said the man then exposes his genitalia through bike shorts and asks the children questions such as ‘have you seen one of these before?’.
He said the man also described his genitals to children as swollen because he had ‘fallen off’ his bike.
The man approaches children as they walk home from school or to a milkbar.
His actions have repulsed police who are now calling on the Greater Dandenong community to dob-in the serial-flasher, or report further cases of his exposure.
The flasher’s hot spots have so far been Ealing Crescent, Amarshan Avenue and Darren Road in Springvale South, and Gove Street in Springvale.
“Our biggest concern is that other incidents have gone unreported,” he said.
“And police really need to know about those.”
The man is described as being between 30 and 40 and wearing a helmet and bike shorts.
Det Sen Const Higgins said police were having trouble developing a clear image of the man because young children’s descriptions were often vague or conflicting.
He said police were also determining whether the same man was responsible for a series of similar incidents in Dingley Village and Moorabin, but they had no clear link at the moment.
Anyone with information should contact the Greater Dandenong CIU on 9767 7681, or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
