AS the Southern Football League (SFL) Division Two match of the year between Dingley and Springvale looms close, both sides have kicked into top gear and destroyed their weekend opponents.
The Dingoes’ 116-point thrashing of Ashwood at Essex Heights Reserve was, for the first time this season, overshadowed by Springvale’s 158-point annihilation of Moorabbin at Springvale Reserve.
For Dingley, coach Adam Quinn booted six goals, while Springvale spearheads Gavin Vassallo and Mark Williams bagged eight and seven respectively.
Both teams are undefeated after six rounds, sit first and second on the Division Two ladder and sport whopping percentages almost double that of the team third on the table.
Springvale and Dingley meet in round nine at the Demons’ home ground, when a premiership favourite for the rest of the season will be crowned.
But, as the cliche goes, both teams are taking the season one week at a time.
This Saturday, Dingley host Murrumbeena at Souter Oval in what could be another ugly 100-plus point decimation.
It will no doubt be uglier at Wachter Reserve, where the struggling Parkmore Pirates host Springvale.
The Pirates copped a 221-point thrashing from Murrumbeena on the weekend and are in line for another double-century defeat against Springvale.
Best for Parkmore on the weekend were Craig Wachter and Dean Anderson.
