Award for student video

– Shaun Inguanzo
FOUR Lyndale Secondary College students have produced an award-winning video about depression.
In a competition open to local schools, the Dandenong Hospital’s psychiatric unit invited students to submit projects that would raise the awareness of and conquer the stigmas associated with mental illness.
Lyndale’s year 10 students Jesse Micic, Samuel Capsis, Nicholas Ling, and Ross Anderson won a $300 prize for their work producing a video about depression.
The winning entry was praised by Psychiatric Unit staff, who labelled it one of the best entries they had seen in 10 years.
Psychology teacher at Lyndale Marika Ferguson said she was immensely proud of the students’ work.
She said Lyndale picked up several other prizes for psychology students’ efforts in the competition but the video won the largest prize of the bunch.
“Overall what we’re trying to achieve through the competition is to give students a greater awareness of mental illness within society and to overcome the stigmas associated with it.”
