A RAPIDLY-growing chemical company now calls Dandenong South home after it outgrew its former Scoresby site.
Orica Woodcare Products was officially opened last week by Manufacturing and Export minister Andre Haermeyer and is expected to create future employment opportunities in the city.
Orica is an Australian-owned multi-billion dollar chemical company that currently employs 14,000 people in more than 100 countries.
Its former site along Ferntree Gully Road, Scoresby, was deemed too small for its future plans, and so the company has moved to Pound Road West, Dandenong South, in partnership with distribution and logistics company Salta-Westgate. Mr Haermeyer said: “The choice of Dandenong for this major joint operation represents a great vote of confidence in Victoria and Melbourne’s south east and reflects our state’s transport, distribution and logistics, and manufacturing strengths.”
The new complex will produce wood-care products including stains, polyurethanes and oils for consumers and professionals.
Salta-Westgate will operate the associated distribution centre.
“As such it reflects the growing integration between manufacturing and services which is driving competitiveness and becoming a feature of successful advanced economies worldwide,” he said.
