A BUS service linking Ringwood to Frankston and passing through Greater Dandenong has received the thumbs up from the City of Greater Dandenong Council.
The State Government announced the service in May 2006 as part of its $10.5 billion long-term public transport plan.
The service is called SmartBus Route 901 and was launched this week.
It is free for residents to trial until Sunday 6 April.
Route 901 will stop at Police Road, Brady Road, Heatherton Road, Cleeland Street, Lonsdale Street, Dandenong Station, Greens Road, and at Willow Lodge Mobile Home Village.
City of Greater Dandenong infrastructure planning manager Lucas Sikiotis said the premium service would improve local transport options for Greater Dandenong residents.
“Council has been working with the Department of Infrastructure’s Public Transport Department to improve bus services in the city and I’m pleased to see a positive result for our residents,” Mr Sikiotis said.
“The new SmartBus Route 901 will provide a speedy and frequent cross-town connection between Ringwood in the north and Frankston in the south.
“This is good news for everyone, particularly given the financial pressure on families with the increasing price of petrol.”
During the week, services run every 15 minutes between 6.30am and 9pm, and on average every 30 minutes between 5am and 6.30am, and 9pm to midnight.
