But the land, at 397 to 399 Princes Highway, will first have to be rezoned from ‘residential’ to ‘mixed use’ with approval from the council before a permit is granted.
The site was previously home to Zorba’s restaurant but all buildings on the property were demolished in 2004.
City of Greater Dandenong planning manager Jody Bosman wrote in his report to the council that the numerous planning applications had been received to use and develop the site. The most recent was for a licensed restaurant. Mr Bosman said the latest proposal includes provision for 37 parking spaces, “but the use of each building was speculative at this stage”.
At its meeting on Monday, the council agreed to advertise the rezoning of the land and display the plans for a month. A date for the exhibition period was not set.
