Speeding sin bins

STICKERS on bins will act as speed signs under a trial by the City of Greater Dandenong to combat erratic drivers in residential streets.
The council approved a trial period for Local Traffic Only signs and for 50 in My Street stickers that residents can place on their regular waste bins.
An officer’s report to councillors said that while there was no evidence that the signs would work, the trial period would allow council officers the chance to collect data and compare drivers’ speeds before and during the trial.
The City of Greater Dandenong has applied for a $10,000 grant through the TAC’s Community Road Safety Grant to pay for the project.
If the grant is successful, stickers and signs will be placed in a sample of streets for six months before a report is compiled for councillors.
