DANDENONG Park and its redevelopment will be the focus of the next Dandenong Retail Traders’ Association (DRTA) general meeting.
There is significant potential to redevelop Dandenong Park, and its associated parklands, into a showpiece of quality, innovative and practical design, the group said.
The Dandenong Park precinct covers a total area of about 31 hectares. It is historically important, having been established for more than 100 years, and has many mature trees, an expansive lawn area and more or less follows the path of the Dandenong Creek.
While the park contains many facilities and fulfils many functions, its design is fragmented and tired.
A number of facilities are poorly located or do not fulfil anywhere near their potential, the DRTA said.
Much of the parkland is under-utilised and exposed to traffic noise, while the park effectively turns its back to the creek.
The City of Greater Dandenong Council adopted the Dandenong Park Masterplan in July 2007.
The Dandenong Park Masterplan is looking at a major revamp and to bring the area back to a major feature of Central Dandenong that will benefit traders and residents.
To detail the proposed changes Paul Cassidy, the City of Greater Dandenong’s team leader urban and open space, will be the guest speaker at the July general meeting of the DRTA.
The Tuesday 1 July meeting will be held at The Ramada Encore Hotel, 50 McCrae Street, Dandenong, at 6pm. New members welcome.
