Bus on hand

A DANDENONG not-for-profit group that trains disadvantaged teenagers in motor mechanics is the beneficiary of a new bus.
The Variety Club and Jack Brockhoff Foundation together donated a 12-seat minibus worth almost $40,000 to Handbrake Turn in Dandenong, which is backed by Concern Australia.
Handbrake Turn director Alan Howlett said the bus would be used to transport young people participating in the program to excursions.
“We put in an application to Variety because we had a terrible old bus that was totally worn out and breaking down.
“They said they were really interested so came and had a look at the program and luckily we made the top of the list.”
Mr Howlett said Handbrake Turn would use the bus to take students to motor shows, work places, apprenticeship centres and recreational activities.
“I’d just like to express my sincere appreciation and thoughts on behalf of Handbrake Turn to the Variety Club and the Jack Brockhoff Foundation.
“They’ve recognised the disadvantage these young people really have.”
