NINE more people have been recognised as living treasures of the City of Greater Dandenong.
The council established the Living Treasure program to recognise people who have made a valuable contribution to the city with a lasting impact on the quality and nature of life of others.
Wes Eggleston, Peter Jabbour, John Beus, Patricia Blashki, Dr Thel Thong, Lorenzo Modica, Marjorie Smith, Bill Warner and NR Wicki Ramasingham are the latest inductees, adding to the existing list of 24 living treasures.
Mr Ramasingham said he was both delighted and honoured to receive the recognition.
He arrived in Australia 17 years ago and has been heavily involved in various community groups, school councils and cultural services ever since.
He’s also a civil marriage celebrant, a Justice of the Peace and is planning to stand for the council at the November elections.
Mayor Maria Sampey said all nine of the inductees were people who had made significant contributions to the city.
“Some are quiet achievers without whom great things would never come to pass,” Cr Sampey said.
“Others have devoted themselves to the community and influenced the history, local economy, social, sporting and cultural life in Greater Dandenong.”
Each Living Treasure will be honoured with a studio portrait to be displayed in the Dandenong and Springvale Council offices for a month.
