CONTINUAL repairs to a bridge built over the EastLink tollway in Dandenong North will not cost the City of Greater Dandenong ratepayer dollars, the council says.
Noble Park North Ward councillor Maria Sampey raised the matter of repairs to the Halton Road bridge in Dandenong North at Monday night’s council meeting after witnessing what she said had become an ongoing saga of repairs.
Cr Sampey said she was curious as to why so many works were still being undertaken on the new bridge, and whether or not it was costing the council money.
The latest activity on the bridge is the adjustment of guard rails.
The council’s engineering services director Tim Tamlin said the guard rails had not met VicRoads’ guidelines, but that the matter – and its costs – remained between EastLink operators and their contractors.
Mr Tamlin said he believed the repairs would be remedial works, and the bridge and its maintenance would remain in the responsibility of EastLink – not the council – well into the future.
“However, we will make sure it has met all of the (engineering) requirements,” he said.
