A LAUNDRY fire at a Dandenong North house forced firefighters to don special breathing gear to battle the blaze.
A combination of Country Fire Authority and Metropolitan Fire Brigade crews rushed to a house in Bakers Road, Dandenong North, on Monday at 4.35am.
Firefighters from Dandenong said when crews arrived they found thick smoke emerging from the roofline.
Firefighters then used oxygen tanks and masks to wade through the smoke-infested house to find the source of the smoke.
They found the laundry ablaze, and said the door was closed, minimising the fire’s ability to spread to the rest of the house.
Firefighters said the family had been woken by smoke detectors and evacuated before the fire posed a safety threat.
