THE Dingley Arterial should be the State Government’s next major road priority, an opposition MP says.
Upper House member for the South Eastern Metropolitan Region Inga Peulich said the new Dandenong Southern Bypass – which forms part of the proposed Dingley Arterial linking the South Gippsland Freeway to Warrigal Road – would create great congestion in Keysborough and Dandenong once EastLink opened this year.
She said congestion was already rife just several kilometres away in Dingley where Old Dandenong Road had reached an unacceptable point of traffic congestion.
“With the increase in traffic so close to homes, local residents who live on the old market garden properties do not have safe access to their properties,” Ms Peulich said.
“Notwithstanding the minor works undertaken by VicRoads, this is a disaster waiting to happen.”
Ms Peulich called on the State Government to build the remaining sections of the Dingley Arterial, with a focus on linking the Dandenong Southern Bypass to Warrigal Road via Westall Road.
Star did not receive a response from Roads Minister Tim Pallas before going to press.
