An elderly man driving a Daewoo sedan wedged his car on top of gas meters in the park, fire officers said, causing them to leak and damaging a fence in the process.
Country Fire Authority crews from Carrum Downs and Dandenong rushed to the scene and used a hose line to disperse gas until maintenance crews arrived to isolate the leak.
Paramedics were on hand in case residents were overcome by fumes, and police arrived to ensure no one entered the gas leak zone.
