A storeman at Dandenong’s PZ Cussons has compared working in the manufacturing industry to working as a chef in a kitchen.
Gerard Fraser, 29, has been working for the company for five and a half years and began his working career making chocolates and liquorice in the kitchens at Cadbury Schweppes.
Now the hard-working raw materials storeman at PZ Cussons liaises with suppliers daily and assists with the manufacturing of products such as soaps, aftershaves, and kitchen, bathroom and laundry products.
“Doing what I do at PZ Cussons is very similar to what I did at Cadbury Schweppes,” he said.
“The only difference now is that the items I create are non-edible.”
Mr Fraser said staff at PZ Cussons still had to follow recipes and certain procedures to create the products.
He said he had heard many myths about the manufacturing industry, but perhaps the greatest one was that all manufacturing companies were dirty.
“They are not dirty. Most are clean and well maintained,” he said.
“People need to understand that there are different types of manufacturing.”
When Mr Fraser gets some spare time, he enjoys playing sport to keep active and spending time with his son.
