NOBLE Park won its fourth game of the Victorian Sub District Cricket Association season when it defeated Sunshine by six wickets in a one-day fixture on Saturday.
The match was reduced to a one-dayer after the first day of play the previous weekend was abandoned due to rain.
Sunshine was dismissed for 162 after winning the toss and opting to bat first.
Noble Park 16-year-old Lyle D’Rozario was the pick of the bowlers, taking 3/18 from seven overs in his first XI debut.
Matt Crozier (2/14), Dean Edmunds (2/31) and Sanj Weerasinghe (2/30) were the other multiple wicket-takers.
In reply, Noble Park amassed 5/164 as Dean Edmunds continued his great season with a top score of 46, while Karl Brown made 41.
The second XI kept its slim finals chances alive by defeating Sunshine outright.
After making 246 on day one thanks to Michael Todd (84), Geoff Richardson (44) and Johann Wise (37), the Noble Park bowlers sent Sunshine back to the pavilion for 82.
Andrew Love (4/13), Sean Schubert (3/29) and Andrew Borovac (2/3) destroyed the Sunshine batting attack.
A cheeky declaration at 1/3 off three overs saw Noble Park needing to dismiss Sunshine within 36 overs for less than 169. At 1/74 after 24 overs this seemed unlikely, but then Wise and Kim Fitzpatrick emerged to roll through the Sunshine team for 139 in the 36th over.
Wise, aged 16, snared 7/43 from 11.4 overs with his leggies, while the veteran Fitzpatrick took 2/56.
Meanwhile, the thirds had their finals hopes snuffed out by Caulfield after they amassed 439 in reply to the Parkers’ 122. Carlos Peregin took 2/61 and Nathan Scouler 2/21 to lead the Noble Park bowlers.
The fourth XI was dismissed for 122 in reply to Caulfield’s 223. Sunny Dhernmet (24), Aiden Wijeratne (18) and Luke Vincent (18) guided the total past a century.
Following on, the side reached 2/41 at stumps.
