Lumen Australia supplies high-tech electrical systems to major car companies such as Ford and Holden.
The Bluetooth products, parking sensors and electrical wiring systems that many take for granted were in fact designed and manufactured in Hallam, in Melbourne’s south east.
Yet the company, which was last month inducted into the Victorian Manufacturing Hall of Fame, has trouble finding skilled workers to join its team. Lumen also supplies the manufacturing industry with wiring looms and other various bits and pieces.
The big-name clients on its list include Toyota, Nissan, Mitsubishi, Jayco caravans, and Hayman-Reese.
Lumen Australia engineer Michael Waterson told Star there were plenty of employment opportunities at the company from the ground up.
“Obviously there are warehouse staff, packing staff, dispatch staff, administrative staff, and those in customer service,” he said.
“But we also have financial, project management, and engineering staff, as well as salespeople, purchasers, quality assurance and production.
“It is hard to find people in general, it doesn’t matter for what position.”
The Hall of Fame induction is the second major prize the company has collected in two years, with Lumen also a past winner of the Greater Dandenong Chamber of Commerce Premier Regional Business Award.
