MARALINGA Primary School in Keysborough last week honoured the hard-working volunteers and parents who have helped keep the many cultural and social fabrics of the school bound together.
The school held its Maralinga Helpers Luncheon with about 40 people, ranging from the Friends of Maralinga through to the school crossing attendants, in attendance.
The school’s Recorder Consort – a band of students playing the recorder – performed Christmas carols for the crowd of helpers.
Maralinga principal Peter Gray thanked the volunteers for their hard work throughout the year, and made special mention of Kanta Way, who has volunteered with the school for 12 years.
Mrs Way has helped in a variety of ways including craft classes and canteen work, and now has to make the decision of whether to stay or go as her final child graduates this year.
“I help them do the art and craft for fathers and mothers days,” she said. “It is fantastic, I really enjoy helping out.
“The principal and all of the staff are very friendly.”
