DANDENONG’S Tony Linossi donned his Speedos for charity and hit the waters of the Dandenong Oasis earlier this month to raise funds for an initiative to combat malaria overseas.
The 77-year-old collected monetary sponsorships and swam a 50-metre lap at the Oasis as part of Rotary’s World Swim for Malaria.
Mr Linossi, a member of the Rotary Club of Dandenong, collected $1530 to donate to Rotary’s international malaria program which is supplying special nets to parts of the world where malaria is rife to protect and shelter people from malaria-carrying mosquitoes.
Mr Linossi said he found the swim quite exhausting.
“I am 77 years young,” he proclaimed, “and I haven’t swam for years.
“But I did a little bit, I think one lap, and when I was finished I was exhausted.”
