Noble hunt for cricketers

NOBLE Park’s hunt for a new English import is continuing on the eve of the Victorian Sub-District Cricket Association (VSDCA) opener.
Lancashire all-rounder Karl Brown was a revelation for Noble last summer, but his county club would not allow him to return to Moodemere Street this season.
The club’s English contacts are now scouring the county scene for an import to fill the void left by Brown – and fellow Lancastrian Steve Croft before him.
Noble finished 10th last season and will be relying on development from within to improve on that standing this summer.
The bowling stocks have not been helped by the departure of young gun Johann Wise and Sri Lankan spinner Sanje Weerasinghe.
Wise has moved to Premier club Richmond after winning Noble’s wickets aggregate with 36 last summer, while Weerasinghe has accepted a coaching role with Ferntree Gully.
Playing-coach Dean Edmunds amassed 612 runs to take the batting award in 2007-08, and he will be hoping for some more support with opener Ash Bradshaw’s return from Dandenong.
Noble begins its campaign with a two-day game at Kingston beginning this Saturday.
