GREATER DANDENONG residents who qualify to vote in this weekend’s election must do so or face the consequences.
The City of Greater Dandenong will join nine other councils who have opted for attendance polls, meaning their voters will have to turn out next Saturday or pay a $57 fine.
In the 2005 and 2007 council elections, 358,609 people across Victoria failed to vote, on a turnout of about 75 per cent.
Non-resident voters and voters older than 70 are not obliged to vote at council elections.
