Trader chief elected

ROY Aspinall of Highway Bowls Centre in Walker Street, Dandenong, has been elected chairman of the Dandenong Retail Traders Association for the 13th time.
He was elected at the association’s annual general meeting at the Dandenong Club late last month which was followed by the business awards dinner.
“It is a great honour to lead the premier retail association in central Dandenong and I am fortunate to have such a strong executive to support me,” Mr Aspinall said. “Everyone on the executive has their own area of expertise and will be an asset for the city and work hard for our members.”
While the association had a strong membership, it also could be better, he said, and he encouraged central Dandenong retailers not already members to give serious thought to joining.
Peter Butts of Shoes Galore was re-elected vice-chairman and Harry Mechielsen from Charlwoods Accountants treasurer.
The executive committee consists of Penny Courtie (Dandenong Market), Patrick Horton (AusClean Laundrette), David Lindsay (MBE Dandenong), Ryan Ling (Dandenong Plaza), Renae MacNamara (Vitality Personnel) and Leanne McCready (City of Greater Dandenong).
To maintain a working relationship with other business groups in the city the president of the Greater Dandenong Chamber of Commerce, Stephen Dunn, was invited to be a co-optee to the traders association executive.
