THE construction of a new train station at Lynbrook will be brought forward under the $38 billion Victorian Transport Plan to serve rapidly expanding suburbs in Melbourne’s south-east.
Member for Lyndhurst Tim Holding said construction on the station would now start in 2010 be built at Lynbrook between Dandenong and Merinda Park stations on the Cranbourne line.
“Bringing the construction of this station forward will improve public transport access for residents in the growing suburbs of Lynbrook and Lyndhurst which are expected to have 12,080 residents by 2016,” Mr Holding said.
“We recognise Melbourne’s south-east is a popular region for families to settle, and providing easy access to rail services is just one way to help shape the liveability of Lynbrook and Lyndhurst,” he said.
He said Lynbrook station would serve as a local transport interchange offering connections to activity and employment centres between Cranbourne and the CBD.
The new station will be located north of Aylmer Road.
An existing pedestrian underpass will enable pedestrian and passenger access between platforms.
