SOUTHERN Health patients will benefit from additional staff who began work last week.
AMA Victoria welcomed 66 new doctors who started as interns at Southern Health last week, among a total of 508 new doctors reporting for work as interns across the state.
Southern Health’s director of medical services, Dr Cate Kelly, said the interns rotated to different sites every 10 to11 weeks and at any one time about nine were at Dandenong Hospital: four in general medicine, and one in emergency, general surgery, palliative care, rehab and psychiatry.
“There are a growing number of interns across the state and across Southern Health in 2009 we have an additional seven posts compared to 2008 as part of that growth,” she said.
“The addition of the new interns at Dandenong Hospital means Southern Health will be better placed to serve the needs of its community.”
