Day is sports for all sorts

IT’S GAME-ON for the Dandenong community on Saturday 28 March with a free day of sport, music and culture.
OnSide Victoria has united with the City of Greater Dandenong to host GameOn, the largest free community event in the south-eastern metropolitan area this year.
Hemmings Park will come alive on 28 March with sports including soccer, volleyball, handball and tennis.
The event will also feature a rock climbing wall, skate competition and performances from Young Star, D & K, Destruct, AMC, Street Science, hip-hop dancers and other cultural groups.
Special guests on the day will include AFL players and Melbourne Victory women’s team members.
OnSide Victoria is hoping to become the leading provider of sport and recreation opportunities for culturally diverse communities and other disadvantaged groups in Victoria and beyond.
Sarah Edwards, OnSide Victoria project manager and Victoria Spirit Women’s Cricket captain, said the aim of the event was to raise community awareness about the sporting opportunities out there and how people could get involved.
“It’s really important that people not only know what sports are available but that there are many ways in which to get involved, no matter what your ability level, and it is often really easy and inexpensive.”
Activities start at 11am and will run through until 5pm.
Ms Edwards said it’s not just a day for the kids.
“It’s going to be a day for the whole family to enjoy.”
