Rego reminder of theft risk

POLICE are making sure motorists ‘get the message’ about preventing their cars from being the target of thieves.
Owners of Victoria’s five million registered motor vehicles will soon receive vital information for preventing theft from motor car with their VicRoads registration renewal notices.
A Victoria Police crime prevention leaflet will be distributed with the notices from the end of April for a period of 12 months in a bid to slash the number of theft from motor vehicle crimes.
The message will be straightforward: clean out your car before someone else does.
Theft from motor vehicle is the state’s highest volume crime despite constant police warnings for motorists to stop making their cars vulnerable.
Loose change, GPS navigation units and laptop computers continue to be the most stolen items from cars.
GPS units stolen between April ’08 and March ’09 totalled 5717 compared to 3652 stolen between April ’07 and March ’08.
