$68,000 cash stash

POLICE uncovered $68,000 cash from a car in Carrum last week, leading to the detection of two Dandenong men allegedly in possession of a large quantity of steroids.
Police now believe they have disrupted the illegal use and distribution of steroids and amphetamines in Melbourne’s south-east, following several searches.
They uncovered the $68,000 cash as part of a planned operation, when they searched a car travelling along Station Street, Carrum around 2.30pm on Tuesday.
The two occupants, a 28-year-old male and 25-year-old female, were arrested at the scene and a further search of their Patterson Lakes residence located a large quantity of steroids.
Fifteen minutes later a second car was intercepted in Cheltenham Road, Keysborough in which two males aged 19 and 23, both from separate Dandenong addresses, were found to be in possession of a large quantity of steroid tablets.
Four subsequent search warrants were executed on premises including two Dandenong residences, an Aspendale house and a Mentone panel beating business.
However the only other items seized were from the Mentone business, where a 38-year-old man was arrested in relation to a loaded handgun, pen pistol, stun gun and amphetamines.
The Patterson Lakes man has been charged with possessing a drug of dependence and proceeds of crime matters, while the female has been released pending further inquiries.
The Dandenong men have both been charged with possessing a drug of dependence and the Aspendale man been charged with trafficking a drug of dependence and two counts of possessing a firearm and possessing a prohibited weapon.
All four have been bailed by police to appear at the Moorabbin Magistrates’ Court on 10 November.
