LYNDHURST MP Tim Holding has been released from hospital after being lost in freezing conditions for two days.
The Springvale-based State Water Minister, who went missing on the weekend while on a solo hike at Mount Feathertop, was spotted by helicopter Tuesday morning and was wenched to safety shortly after.
He was taken to The Alfred hospital in a stable condition suffering mild dehydration.
Staff at his Springvale office said they were inundated with calls and support from local residents.
But electorate officer Steve Staikos said staff had never given up hope that Mr Holding would be found alive and well.
“We were confident that they would find Tim,” he said. “He is an experienced hiker.”
Last night Mr Holding released a statement thanking those who helped with the rescue.
“I’m very relieved to be back safely and I’m extremely grateful to everyone who helped out with the rescue effort,” the statement said.
He is expected to speak to the media later in the week.
The search started after Mr Holding’s partner notified police when he did not arrive home from his hike as planned.
