A YOUNG father has vowed to take matters into his own hands if police do not act, after he was stabbed multiple times over the weekend.
Speaking from his hospital bed, Barcelona Enua, 17, told the Star he was attacked by a group of Indian men while picking a friend up from a party at Springers Leisure Centre in Keysborough in the early hours of Sunday.
This week Mr Enua had surgery and was treated for 12 stab wounds, a punctured lung and a broken collarbone at the Dandenong Hospital.
He is expected to stay in hospital until early next week.
“It was a totally unprovoked attack,” he said.
“Me and my partner were picking up a mate and it was obvious these guys just wanted to fight.”
Mr Enua said his friend had asked the DJ to play a song earlier in the night and after an hour waiting asked the DJ again before being verbally attacked by those around him.
“As he was leaving we saw four guys follow him out looking for a fight,” he said.
“So I got out of the car and stood beside him.
“That’s when it turned into a big mess.”
The scene quickly turned into a fistfight between the two groups, the four Indian men against Mr Enua and his friend.
“I felt three sharp punches to my stomach, but didn’t really notice I was bleeding until my partner called out,” he said.
“I was too busy trying to keep the other guy on the ground.”
His partner, Milkica Velickov said she couldn’t believe people carried knives to a party.
“If Barcelona was in hospital after a fist fight and he was just bruised we wouldn’t be making such a big deal about it,” she said.
“But these guys were carrying knives – to a party.”
Mr Enua agreed.
“Because of this kind of stupidity my daughter could be without a father,” he said.
“It is hard to believe that someone would think taking a knife to a party was a good idea, they were obviously just looking for a fight.”
Furious that his one-month-old daughter Natalia could have been forced to live without her father, Mr Enua said he was more than happy to take matters into his own hands if police did not act.
“The Indian students say they are being attacked,” he said.
“But now they are the ones carrying the knives.
“I will take things into my own hands – I have no problem doing that.”
His injuries will leave the young father unable to work for the next two months, making it even more difficult for the young family during these tough times.
Spokeswoman for Victoria Police, Alison Noonan confirmed the incident occurred in the car park of the leisure centre at about 1am on Sunday morning, but police were not notified until nine hours later.
“Police did not attend the scene at the time of the stabbing because of this,” she said.
“No charges have yet been laid but the Dandenong Crime Investigation Unit is making further inquiries to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.”
Anyone with information is asked to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
