THE Victorian Seniors Festival this week again celebrates senior citizens in the local community.
The festival, now in its 27th year, runs from Monday 5 October to Friday 9 October.
Greater Dandenong mayor Pinar Yesil said a variety of free and low-cost events would be held in the city.
She said residents could participate in everything from tennis, lawn bowls, music and dancing.
“The Victorian Seniors Festival encourages older people to discover the variety of opportunities available to them, as well as opening their eyes to a range of new activities they can enjoy for the rest of their lives,” she said.
“It is important to recognise the role of seniors and acknowledge the significant contribution they make within our community.”
Cr Yesil said it was also a chance for all generations to join older people in a fantastic community celebration.
“Seniors play a significant role in our community as mentors, teachers, grandparents, carers as well as paid and unpaid workers,” she said.
“This is our chance to say thank you and let our seniors know how important they are.”
Details of events are available from the council’s customer service centres, libraries and senior citizen clubs.
