MENTAL Health week was kicked off in Dandenong last week, with red, yellow and black balloons released into the sky.
Dandenong and District Aboriginal Co-operative mental health worker Di Goujon launched the week with Greater Dandenong mayor Pinar Yesil, among dancing and other festivities.
“Our spiritual and emotional wellbeing program has held activities all week,” she said.
“Ranging from relaxation and massage to a visit from the CAT team and aboriginal health service.”
She said Monday’s launch was a celebration with the launch of balloons, sharing cake and community acknowledgment that says “mental health doesn’t discriminate, why should we”.
Ms Goujon said Mental Health Week was not the only time the co-op focused on mental health in the community.
“We have also engaged a psych nurse to come one day a week for two hours, and a psych registrar who is still in training,” she said.
“This shows the achievements we have made for the last 12 months.”
