THOUSANDS of well-behaved punters and socialites flocked to Sandown Racecourse on the weekend to mark the end of this year’s Spring Racing Carnival.
More than 10,000 people enjoyed a day of racing, fashion and entertainment in beautiful weather conditions, Betfair Park manager Wade Calderwood said.
Mr Calderwood said the Melbourne Racing Club was pleased Sandown Classic was a success and patrons were well-behaved.
“The MRC and Police were delighted that the behaviour of patrons at this year’s event was exemplary,” he said.
“This follows on from last year where crowd behaviour was also very good.”
Acting Senior Sergeant Darren Waterfall agreed.
“Overall, everyone was extremely well-behaved,” he said.
“We had maybe four people who were escorted from the course due to intoxication, and two people who produced false identification. Apart from that the day went off without incident.”
Sen Sgt Waterfall congratulated race-goers for their behaviour and said management planning and ACG security were largely to credit for the successful day.
