Shops furnish the goods

By Lia Bichel
Stores including Regal Mattress, Springcrest Curtains and Great Furniture, nestled among homeware giants like Harvey Norman, provide shoppers with a massive range of products to furnish every room in the house or to purchase as special gifts.
City of Greater Dandenong retail development officer Leanne McCready said the area had evolved in the past few years and was a popular destination for consumers in the area.
“There are quite a number of shops specialising in homewares and furniture; including lounges, dining tables, beds and electrical. There is everything from traditional to modern,” she said.
“Instead of people travelling place to place, they can stop on Dandenong-Frankston Road and do all their shopping in a day.”
Regal Mattress owner Mohan Singh said he was attracted to the business on Dandenong-Frankston Road, having owned a previous store in the area.
“We sell good Australian-made quality products, satisfaction guaranteed,” he said.
“Being located where we are, we are able to deliver mattresses within three days. It’s a great central location and allows people to come in and shop (for furniture) in one area. ”
Urban Rhythm Furniture owner and manager Sam See said the Dandenong business has been located on Dandenong-Frankston Road for 11 years and had no plans on moving.
Urban Rhythm Furniture sells a large range of Australian-made sofas and solid timber furniture.
“This is a great area; there are lots of other (similar stores) around. We are among a big centre with a lot of attraction,” he said.
“People come to the area because there is plenty to choose from.”
Ms McCready said she expected the businesses on the busy road to continue evolving in the future, in turn attracting more people to the area.
“It’s a really exciting place,” she said.
