AN INVESTMENT in the Noble Park ‘More Than Just a Pool’ campaign is the best way to bring people together for both social and health purposes.
This is the belief of YMCA Victoria chief executive Peter Burns, who has joined the push for funding for the project.
Mr Burns said he was thrilled that stage two, the indoor warm water pool component, could now go ahead after $1 million funding was announced last week.
“There’s a massive demand for warm water activity,” he said.
“It will benefit so many different people in the community, who will use it for health reasons, rehabilitation or people with disabilities.”
“For me, the pool project could be no better way to invest to bring people together for not only health purposes, but also social reasons.”
Mr Burns said the whole project, including Stage three – the youth precinct, would be a great community asset.
“A lot of connecting goes on in pools, they are a very social place,” he said. “So this facility is important for community building.
“From YMCA’s point of view, the more points of contact for people in the community the better.
“The whole project, including Stage three, will be a strong community asset where people can go and get active and social with people young and old.”
