Band’s backyard bid

A LOCAL band is fighting it out to host a gig in their own backyard, starring an acclaimed Australian band.
Risk Tonight is one of three finalists band in the running to host the Red Bull Bedroom Jam competition ‘Backyard Jam’ featuring Aussie band Bluejuice.
Today is the last day the community can help get the local group across the line.
The band, a group of teenagers from St John’s Regional College, were selected as the second Australian finalist after they topped the ‘Buzz Chart’ to beat 120 other bands in October.
The Buzz Chart is a piece of custom-built technology, that ranks the top ten bands in real time, based on their online chatter across the Red Bull Bedroom Jam site, myspace, facebook, twitter and other social networking portals.
As part of their prize, the band rocked out in one of the band member’s bedrooms in Endeavour Hills in October for the second live webcast produced in Australia for this all-new online music competition.
The band is made up of lead vocalist Georgia Taylor and bass guitarist Simon Hallett, from Endeavour Hills, drummer Hai Nguyen, from Noble Park, lead guitarist Shantanu Joshi, from Hampton Park, and rhythm guitarist Nhattan Huynh, from Dandenong.
The three finalist bands are now fighting it out on a new Buzz Chart to determine where the Backyard Jam will be held – a backyard gig with the three finalist bands and Bluejuice.
They are also in the running to win a recording session in Red Bull’s L.A. recording studio, a prize worth more than $80,000.
It is up to fans, friends and family and the community to help the band win the right to host the event.
People are encouraged to check out www.redbullbedroomjam.com.au and vote.
The more people sign up as fans to their local band, the more chance they have of hosting the backyard jam.
