Close call for kitten

By Bridget Cook
LUCKY is the perfect name for the newest addition of a Keysborough family after the kitten survived a two kilometre journey in a car engine bay.
On Friday 11 February, Ms Cucchiara’s husband returned home from work and said he could hear meow noises from inside the garage.
After searching the garage, the family realised the noises were coming from under the car.
“We thought that somebody was playing a joke on us,” she said.
“There was no way that we had thought there was a cat hiding somewhere in his car.”
Convinced that there was something under there, Ms Cucchiara called the RSPCA and the council, but neither were able to send anyone until after the weekend.
“So we took out tuna and milk and put it underneath the car,” she said.
“Eventually, the cat emerged from a cavity near the tyre. She was tiny and most probably only a few weeks old. She had no signs of any physical injuries and appeared happy and healthy.”
After Lucky spent eight days at the Keysborough animal shelter, the Cucchiara family decided to adopt her.
Ms Cucchiara said the name Lucky was the perfect fit.
“I find it just astonishing that such a tiny little thing could survive such an experience,” she said.
“If she hadn’t already had fallen out on the two kilometre journey home, then surely we thought she would have suffered severe trauma from her experience.”
Ms Cucchiara said the family was thrilled with their new addition.
“We don’t know why she came to us, but we are sure freaked out,” she said.
“It certainly put a smile on my nine-year old daughter’s face as she has wanted a kitten for a long time.”
