Mates unite

EMPLOYEES of Australia’s largest marketer of LPG have thrown their support behind a Dandenong worker’s fight with cancer.
Marshall Lethlean’s operations manager Ray Schinck collapsed on Boxing Day and was diagnosed with cancer.
The Dandenong business builds and supplies Elgas with its LPG distribution vehicles and to show their support employees from both companies joined forces to have a photo taken of themselves with Ray’s last Elgas truck before his diagnosis.
Elgas national fleet operation manager Damian Pennington was the brains behind the gesture.
“He’s a terrific bloke with a lot of integrity and we wanted to do something for him,” Mr Pennington said.
“Ray has probably built about 40 trucks for Elgas over the years and the last truck he built was the one in the picture.”
Mr Pennington said it wasn’t difficult to gather the troops for the photo and all kinds of workers wanted to get involved.
“There is a financial controller to the welders and fitters,” he said.
“It was clear they all wanted to get involved.”
Mr Pennington said Ray was a great man who had been a real supporter of Elgas for more than a decade.
“The words that describe Ray – he’s hardworking, determined and he’s got integrity.”
The framed and mounted photo will be presented to Ray to show how much he is appreciated by Elgas, all his customers and fellow workers.
“We’re going to present him with a framed photo so he can take it straight to the pool room,” Mr Pennington said.
