A FIRE that damaged a Bunnings store in Dandenong was deliberately lit, according to police.
The Gladstone Road store was well alight when Dandenong and Hallam CFA brigades arrived at 2.10am on Sunday.
Dandenong firefighter Keith Pakenham said CFA crews were on the scene within minutes.
The fire started in a pile of cardboard and wooden pallets in the loading bay area and spread into the store, where it damaged a rack of timber and insulation material.
It activated the sprinkler system which helped control the fire and CFA crews contained the fire within 35 minutes.
Detective Senior Constable Michael Vanhamond said the fire caused significant damage to the exterior of the building and stock inside from radiant heat.
“We are seeking two males seen loitering in the vicinity of the fire,” Det Sen Const Vanhamond said.
He said the only description of the men was that they were wearing hooded tops at the time.
Police are seeking witnesses.
