THICK fog hampered efforts to fight a factory fire in Dandenong South on the weekend.
Dandenong and Hallam fire brigades responded to a smoke alarm at the Colmax Glass factory on Stephen Road at 9.15am on Sunday.
Dandenong fire-fighter Keith Pakenham said thick fog meant the crews could not see the factory, smoke or flames until they were within 50 metres of the site.
Firefighters forced entry through a gate and cut through a steel roller door to gain access to the machinery inside, which was well alight.
Twenty-five fire-fighters attended as well as specialist vehicles from Scoresby and Frankston.
The fire was contained in 40 minutes.
The factory suffered some internal damage, and while the cause is still being investigated it was not deemed suspicious.
