RACV has helped push start Hand Brake Turn into a new future.
The Dandenong workshop received $7000 of new equipment to help its youth automotive program venture into training licensed roadworthy testers.
Hand Brake Turn Dandenong manager Mark Binnington said the equipment had allowed the program to expand into proving roadworthy certificates and include new techniques into the training program.
“We are grateful for RACV’s support of our programs and the organisation’s generosity in providing this much needed equipment to help us upgrade our facilities,” he said.
“It’s going to help the quality and level of training we give to young students and could potentially be a real help in saving costs.”
Mr Binnington said the equipment, for the spray shop, panel beating workshop and mechanical workshop, would also broaden the student’s skills, giving them greater experience and opportunities.
The new equipment is already in use and includes a headlight-aiming grid, window tint tester, new upholstery cleaner, industrial grade vacuums and infra-red drying lamps.
RACV’s general manager automotive services Guy Hummerston said the equipment was well deserved.
“Hand Brake Turn is a fantastic program which helps young people learn life changing skills and RACV is delighted to be providing much needed equipment to support this important initiative in Dandenong,” said Mr Hummerston.
The Hand Brake Turn program is for young people aged between 15 and 20 years who struggle in the school environment or to enter the workforce.
The young people help repair a car over the eight-week program, which is then presented to a worthy recipient in the community.
